    ABSTRACT:

Health and healthcare require particular attention from economists in order to consider the use of resources devoted to producing healthcare and improving oral health. Health economics is the application of the principles of economics to healthcare sector. The extensive rural population and school children are denied of even the basic dental services though there is continuous advancement in the field of dentistry. The various studies have revealed an increasing trend in oral diseases in the recent times especially among this underserved population. The wide spread nature of dental disease in rural India means that the detrimental effects of dental diseases within individual will also have negative impact on the functioning population. This translate in to loss of man hours which significant negative impact on economic productivity. An individual may have dental needs as determined by health care professionals but fail to seek services because he/she either does not perceive reason for the same or lacks sufficient resources as time, money or transportation to receive treatment. Dentistry faces serious problems regarding accessibility of its services to all. Understanding the barriers that prevent people from seeking appropriate and timely dental care is important when designing out-reach activities. It would be useful to understand the factors which influence the underutilization of available dental health care services. This would help in designing suitable interventions to reduce dental neglect around the world. The present review article covers similar issues and provides some background of Indian dental care services that may help in augmenting the utilization of dental care services.

    ABSTRACT:

Our work is closed to the framework of the good management for the Afenourir’s lake (Morocco), and its biodiversity, for its restoration and maintenance of all kinds of anthropic activities (overgrazing, pumping, etc.). It consists of the analysis and identification of the floristic biodiversity of lake during the period April-June 2015 in order to study its quality. Indeed, floristic species play a major role in the production and protection of soils against erosion, as well as maintaining substrate and the balance of the aquatic ecosystem, and can also be bioindicators of pollution. The flora of this wetland shows a lower floristic richness in terms of aquatic flora, which represents only 5 species including Ranunculus aquatilis, Zannichellia palustris, Myriophyllum Spicatum, Chara Globularis, Eleocharis uniglumis and Scirpus Lacustris; On the other hand terrestrial flora shows a diversity of species such as Cedrus atlantica, Quercus rotundifolia, Crataegus laciniata Ucr, Eryngium Bourgatii, Thymelaea virgata, Euphorbia nicaensis, Anacyclus pyrethrum L, Plantago coronopus L, Ilex aquifolium and Acer monspessulanum L.

    ABSTRACT:

Background: India’s first nationwide thyroid health study, “The Thyroid Environment is the most Epidemiological study” revealed that 10% of the population suffers from Hypothyroidism. Drug-based treatments do not cure the condition, but palliate it, supplementing missing thyroid hormones. In contrast, Äyurveda treats the disease as an imbalance, prescribing diet and lifestyle modification, Ähära-Vihära, for its management. Here we report a case-series study of 13 hypothyroidism patients treated by Ähära-Vihära along with fresh herbal juices (Rasähära), and Yoga. Aim: To identify general life-style causes of hypothyroidism, and evaluate effects of Ähära-Vihära treatments. Methods: Entry data of 137 hypothyroidism patients attending four Rasähära clinics in the city of Bhopal was analyzed for life-style problems; health changes before, during and after life-style modification are reported for 13 representative cases. Results: 111 had other Kaphaja and Pittaja diseases along with hypothyroidism. 100 habitually delayed eating lunch after heavy breakfasts. 61 (of 86 with data) were late risers, all causes of kapha roga. 12 out of 13 patients reduced thyroid supplements by varying amounts. Discussion: Failure to resolve Kapha and Pitta imbalances caused by factors like delayed meal and sleeping times, and late rising and afternoon sleep, combined with suppression of Kapha and Pitta imbalance conditions may lead to Hypothyroidism.

This study attempts to explain the process and mechanism of health service model claim with BPJS facility in private hospitals type C. Object of this study was medical record of BPJS patients at RS PKU Muhammadiyah Gampinghospital. This study was done in RS PKU Muhammadiyah Gamping. Emergency Department services at the hospital include OneDay Care and One Day Care Surgery services. An interesting finding in this study revealed that the verification process of BPJS claims by the verifiers at RS PKU Muhammadiyah Gamping has not run as expected because the verifiers were often not available atthe hospital and lack of similar perceptions among verifiers at RS PKU Muhammadiyah Gamping. The implementation of BPJS claim verification at RS PKU Muhammadiyah Gamping has not run well due to the medical personnel or doctor in charge of patient (DPJP) was incomplete in filling the medical record. The cause of non-compliance with BPJS claims at RS PKU Muhammadiyah Gamping wasthe incompatible codingorgroupingof diagnosis into INA-CBG’s system. This is due to the lack of understanding on medical record at RS PKU Muhammadiyah Gamping that causes differences between INA-CBG’s package with the verifier results of RS PKU Muhammadiyah Gamping.

Identifying the resistant genotypes is one of vital strategies to control Fusarium stalk rot disease in maize. Twenty-four maize inbred lines were evaluated for resistance to stalk rot caused by Fusarium verticillioides at Crop Research and Development Institute (CRDI), Vietnam Nation University of Agriculture (VNUA) during the spring of 2016, and their QTL resistance were also studied at the molecular level using SSR maker with two specific primers reference from Jun-Qiang Ding et al, 2008 reported to avoid environmental effects in the JICA laboratory, VNUA, Vietnam. Disease severity was calculated in the field using a severity scale (SS) and direct estimation of stalk discoloration (SD) by artificial inoculation method. Both SS and SD results combined molecular marker was identified 18 inbred maize lines were resistant to Fusarium stalk rot. Disease assessments based on SS, SD were significantly correlated (r = 0.85; P < 0.01) in spring, respectively. SSR marker and SD were significantly correlated (r = 0.85; P < 0.01). Eighteen genotypes showed highly resistant response in growing seasons are D1, D2, D3, D4, D5, D6, D7, D8, D9, D10, D11, D12, D14, D15, D17,D19, D20 and D21, these lines can be utilized to develop the maize hybrids resistant to Fusarium stalk rot in Vietnam.

    ABSTRACT:

Despite their different mechanism of action, the antitumor efficacy of overall anticancer therapies would depend not only on their antitumor cytotoxic activity, but also on the immune biological response of cancer patients, which is the result of interactions between immunostimulatory and immunosuppressive events. Today, it is known that the anticancer immunity is mainly depending on T helper (TH) (CD4+) and dendritic cells, whereas it inhibited by the macrophage system and regulatory T lymphocytes (T reg) (CD4+CD25+). Moreover the generation of T reg cells has been proven to be stimulated by macrophage-mediated chronic inflammatory status related to cancer progression. Therefore, it becomes to be clinically important to identify possible inexpensive biomarkers able to investigate and to define the immunoinflammatory status of cancer patients with the respect to more expensive analyses, such as the measurement of lymphocytes subset and cytokines blood concentration. Recent clinical studies have shown the common available inexpensive routinely laboratory analyses, such as lymphocytes-to-monocyte ratio (LMR) may reflect the immunoinflammatory status of cancer patients, since lymphocyte and monocyte count are respectively related to the anticancer immunity and to his macrophage mediated suppression. On this basis, a study was planned to establish which correlation may exist between LMR and lymphocyte subsets, namely T reg cells, in metastatic cancer patients. The study included 30 metastatic cancer patients, who were affected by the most common solid neoplasm. LMR and TH-TO-T reg ratio were considered to be normal when they were greater than 2.1 and greater than 10. Abnormally low values of LMR and TH-TO-T reg ratio were observed in 14/30 (47%) and in 16/30 (53%) patients, respectively. Patients with abnormally low values of TH-TO-T reg ratio showed significantly mean values of LMR than those with normal values. Moreover, a significantly positive correlation was observed between TH-TO-T reg ratio and LMR values. On the contrary, LMR was negatively correlated to T reg cell percentage. The results of this preliminary study would suggest that LMR may represent the best surrogate inexpensive biomarker with the respect to other most complex and expensive immune analyses to monitor the status of the immunoinflammatory biological response of cancer patients.

Aerva lanata (L.) root of the family Amaranthaceae is a Indian medicinal plant used traditionally for the management of Raktavikara, Sopha (Sotha), Dusta Vrana. The drug Gorakṣagañja is a good diuretic and the roots are given in dysuria (mūtra krichhra) and calculus (aśmari) (Halliwell, 2008). It is used for alleviating diseases caused by kapha and vāta doṣ. The roots are used (particularly in southern India) as an effective diuretic drug specially for calculus, as substitute or a source plant of Pāṣāṇabhēda. Studies that show the pharmacological basis for some of such uses have been reported. There is, however, no scientific report on its antioxidant activity of aqueous ethanol extract to the best of our knowledge. This study was therefore aimed at investigating the antioxidant Activity of aqueous ethanol extract of Aerva lanata. The antioxidant activity of aqueous ethanol extracts of root was evaluated by various in vitro antioxidant assays such as evaluation of reducing power, DPPH radical scavenging activity, nitric oxide scavenging activity, superoxide anion scavenging activity. These results conclude that A. lanata root possesses high antioxidant activity and can be used for the development of natural and safe antioxidant compounds.

    ABSTRACT:

International tourism trade shows are an essential instrument in the marketing of goods and services. Trade shows establish direct relationships between supply and demand, and provide the opportunity for particular marketing activities. A growing body of academic and practitioner trade shows literature has highlighted the relationship between trade show marketing strategies and the trade shows performance. However, the effect of exhibitor experience in the international trade show marketing strategy and performance relationship has not been addressed in the literature. Thus, this paper fills the gap by examining the moderating role of exhibitor trust, commitment and satisfaction during their trading experience at selected trade shows. The purpose of this study is 1) to identify the concepts of experiential marketing in international tourism trade show; 2) to determine the dimensions of exhibitor trading experience at international tourism trade show; 3) to develop a conceptual framework regarding the relationship between the exhibitors trading experience and trade show performance; 4) to propose a new perspective to see exhibitor’s performance in international trade show from an experiental standpoint. A theoretical model of exhibitors experience to trade shows performance was develop drawing on research from the realms of exhibitor behaviour, experiential marketing, goverment support and trade show performance. Consistent with a positivist methodology, a questionnaire was developed and tested, data collected from 100 respondents and structural equation modelling used to test the theoretical and competing models. This study will provide an initial understanding of the nature of the experiences of exhibitors at international trade shows. In reporting corresponding exhibitor responses, this study will also contribute to research on trade show performance.

    ABSTRACT:

Human immunodeficiency virus infection and acquired immune deficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS) is a spectrum of conditions caused by infection with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Following initial infection, a person may not notice any symptoms or may experience a brief period of influenza-like illness. Typically, this is followed by a prolonged period with no symptoms. As the infection progresses, it interferes more with the immune system, increasing the risk of common infections like tuberculosis, as well as other opportunistic infections, and tumors that rarely affect people who have working immune systems. These late symptoms of infection are referred to as AIDS. This stage is often also associated with weight loss. HIV is spread primarily by unprotected sex (including anal and oral sex), contaminated blood transfusions, hypodermic needles, and from mother to child during pregnancy, delivery, or breastfeeding. Some bodily fluids, such as saliva and tears, do not transmit HIV.

Triple-negative breast cancer (sometimes abbreviated TNBC) refers to any breast cancer that does not express the genes for estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR) or Her2/neu, detected in 8-20% of cases, the most aggressive with a poor prognosis.. Breast cancer (BC) is the most frequent tumor worldwide. In 2016, 1,380,000 new cases and 458,000 deaths for BC were reported worldwide, of which there were 332,000 new cases and 79,000 deaths in Asia. Although the improvement in early diagnosis and adjuvant therapy has reduced mortality, BC is still the main cause of death for cancer in women both in industrialized and in developing countries. In Uzbekistan, BC is the most frequent tumor in women (47%), with about 17,000 new cases diagnosed in 2016. BC is a heterogeneous disease, and therefore, a “golden standard” treatment, suitable for all the molecular types of cancer, is not available. The most important biological markers, not only for classification of BC but also for, the therapeutic strategy are the hormonal receptors (estrogen (ER] and progesterone (PgR] receptor) and the HER2 receptor status. This article provides a literature review in terms of perceptions of prevalence, etiology, risk factors, diagnosis, therapeutic strategies and prognoses of triple negative breast cancer.

Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is an inflammatory condition of nasal and paranasal mucosa. It has both medical and surgical modalities of treatment. The evaluation of clinical profile of a patient can be done both subjectively using SNOT 20 scoring and objectively using Lund and Mackey endoscopic scoring and NCCT for imaging for assessment of efficacy of the treatment modality. The most effective modality of treatment of CRS has always been a debate amongst surgeons both in respect to modality as well as timing and type of surgical intervention. In our study we have evaluated the subjective and objective outcomes of FESS in patients with CRS, refractory to medical treatment or with reccurence of disease. In right hands FESS is associated with very low complication rate. There is a marked improvement in the clinical profile as well as the quality of life of patients of CRS following FESS.

    ABSTRACT:

The Sokoto area of Nigeria is the southeastern margin of the very extensive (ca. 1 million km2) Iullemmeden Basin – an intracratonic depression in the Precambrian Basement Complex. The basin fill succession consists of the Late Jurassic continental facies and Cretaceous marine deposits topped by Mid-Paleogene continental facies. Impressive outcrops had spurred the search for petroleum in early colonial time but the poor showing of the earliest boreholes discouraged the efforts. This study is, therefore, aimed at providing more information on one of the prerequisite attributes – reservoir characteristics using outcropping analogues for assessing the lithostratigraphic units that bear the potential reservoirs. Hydrocarbons, possibly generated from carbonaceous fine clastics and carbonate facies of the marine deposits, could have migrated to the sandstones of the Illo and Gundumi Formations of the Continental Intercalaire Group, the Taloka and Wurno Formations of the Rima Group and the Gwandu Formation of the Continental Terminal Group, as well as the carbonate unit of the Kalambaina Formation. However, only the shales of the Taloka and the Wurno Formations may constitute effective seal facies. Additionally, the coarse to medium sandstones of the Gwandu Formation may constitute suitable reservoir facies if the interbedded ironstones prove to be good seals.

    ABSTRACT:

Demonetization announced on November 8, 2016 was aimed at dealing with corruption, black money, counterfeit currency and terror financing. Although demonetization holds enormous potential benefits in the medium to long-term, given the scale of operation, it was expected to cause temporary disruption in economic activity. Therefore, it is imperative to evaluate the short run and medium-term impacts that such a shock is expected to have on the economy. Further, the impact of such a move would vary depending on the extent to which the government decides to demonetize. This paper elucidates the impact of such a move on the availability of credit, spending, and level of activity and government finances. Overall economic activities will be dampened in the short term. But the immeasurable benefits of having more transparency and reduced volume of black money activities can be pointed as long term benefits. It is clear that as of now, we are yet to come to grips with Demonetization and it would be prudent to say that unless there is more investigation into what the measure achieved or did not achieve. It would be best to say that structural reforms such as Demonetization often take time and clear thought as well as flawless execution before they begin to bear fruit. This means that we should wait until 2019 to see if demonetization succeeded or failed and considering the peoples’ opinion in the coming elections over the next couple of years

    ABSTRACT:

There are different variables involved in the teaching and learning process. Taha (1980) had already referred to three important elements in the equation: materials, teachers and teaching style, students and learning style. Each one of these variables and many other factors may be a cause of language attrition. The present paper investigates the phenomenon of language attrition among the basic school pupils; particularly, lexical or vocabulary attrition, i.e. why the linguistic information becomes inaccessible to the individual. There are many factors of language attrition. The present paper approaches this issue from teacher's perspective. Could we argue that the teachers' lack of the three fundamental requirements for effective teaching: a reasonable level of competence in English and training in and understanding of various methods of teaching, the four language skills in the classroom and the ability to adapt methods and materials to their own classroom environment may be one of the reasons of lexical attrition among the basic school pupils in the Sudan; Omderman? To achieve its objectives, two tools of data collection were used: evaluation checklist and observation. It is found that the teachers by their behavior inside the classroom contributed in the occurrence of the phenomenon of lexical attrition among the Sudanese basic school pupils.

    ABSTRACT:

Introduction: Prematurity is one of the pathologies that lead to greater morbidity and mortality, being the first cause of death in newborn patients (up to 28 days of life) and the second cause in children under 5 years of age. One of the most used strategies to improve the general conditions of the preterm patient is the early initiation of total parenteral nutrition (TPN) to ensure an adequate caloric protein intake, avoid malnutrition and improve nutritional reserves. There are different modes of administration of parenteral nutrition. Material and methods: Two groups of premature patients who received TPN in continuous modality or cycled for at least 7 days were formed, all newborns under 37 weeks of gestation that met the selection criteria were chosen. Laboratory controls were taken at the beginning of the TPN (day 0) and on days 7, 14, 21 and 28 of its use, the values of bilirubins, AST, ALT, GGT, alkaline phosphatase were compared and the presence or absence was compared of cholestasis at any time of the use of TPN between both groups. Results: A prevalence of cholestasis of 19.4% was reported in all patients admitted to the NICU, with 24% in whom it was infused in continuous mode and 18.6% in those who received the nutrition in cycle mode, Wald prediction analysis was performed observing that patients with continuous TPN have a 7.6 times higher risk of presenting cholestasis than those who were infused with the cycled method (Stanford University method).

This paper attempts not only to project Indo-Anglian literature as a mature and respectable genre of what is called ‘Commonwealth Literature’ with its inevitable stamp of Indianness but also to comment on the commendable contribution of the novelists like R.K.Narayan, Raja Rao, M.R.Anand, Kamala Markandaya to Indo-Anglian Fiction with a focus on the special contribution of Mulk Raj Anand introducing the new wave of idealism and humanism in Indo-Anglian fiction. It neatly examines the inhuman attitude of man towards man whose unsettled existence is nothing but pathetic human predicament which is clearly reflected in Coolie.

Introduction: Inguinal hernia in children can threaten life or cause loss of organs. It requires an elective surgical approach, through open surgery or laparoscopic. Objective: To compare the results of laparoscopic surgery versus open technique in indirect inguinal hernia in pediatric patients operated on in the General Hospital High Specialty Naval. Material and methods: longitudinal, prospective, comparative and quasi-experimental study, typical clinical practice trial type, pediatric cases with hernia were analyzed indirect inguinal operated at the High Specialty Naval General Hospital during the period 2015-2017. Results: 66 patients were included, between 1 month and 16 years of age. 51.5% is underwent minimally invasive surgery and 48.5% open surgery, they were not found differences in trans-surgical complications (p 0.73) or postsurgical complications (p 0.10), nor in surgical time, while the time of stay and recovery were significantly lower in the laparoscopic surgery group. Conclusions: Both surgical techniques are safe, but laparoscopic surgery. It offers the advantage of identifying other alterations and performing the repair in the same surgical event, reduces the time of stay and the recovery time.

    ABSTRACT:

Due to social, economical, physiological and technological changes in our environment, the School District of Palm Beach County is preparing to satisfy the learning needs of the adult learners by developing Artificial Intelligence courses that will enable them to adapt to changes in their environment. This calls for the implementation of an artificial intelligence systems curriculum as one of the preparation and several measures of adult student learning. The research question is: “What should be included in a curriculum for adult learners to acquire knowledge and to improve and transfer their knowledge?” The research question was answered by a thorough review of literature about intelligence systems. The formative committee provided a magnitude detail and attention to the creation of the curriculum guide. Suggestions were made by the formative committee concerning the content of the artificial intelligence development curriculum guide and its implementation. The initial draft of the curriculum was review by the formative committee and a feedback was relayed to the researcher. The summative committee effectively judged the curriculum design, and the curriculum guide was validated by the committee. It was recommended that the Artificial Intelligence Curriculum be applied only to adult learners at the Adult education center of the Palm Beach School District. It was certain that the curriculum adhered to the School District mission, that is to provide excellence and well-rounded education to individual adult and displaced student.

Background: there is little information about the prevalence of kidney disease in early stages, especially focused on pediatric age, this is because the disease is asymptomatic during these stages, a timely diagnosis with strict follow up Objective: to know the prevalence of kidney disease in apparently healthy children with risk factors. Methodology: a cross-sectional, descriptive, observational study in children who attended the outpatient clinic of pediatrics identified with risk factor by means of a questionnaire, analysis of the analyzed parameters and laboratory studies to evaluate the renal function, the data obtained were analyzed by means of statistics descriptive to report frequencies, percentages and measures of central tendency (mean and median) and dispersion (range and standard deviation). Results: 33 patients were studied, 18 of the male gender corresponding to 54. 5% with predominance of patients of school age; 15 women of the female sex with 45. 4%. Of the variables to demonstrate kidney disease, significant proteinuria was found in 6. 1% and hematuria in 21. 2%, this in 11 patients corresponding to 33. 3% of the sample cataloged with evidence of kidney disease at the time of the study. Conclusion: it is important to implement screening studies in this type of patients with known risk factors for chronic kidney disease, even if they are asymptomatic, since they may present early stages of the disease.

    ABSTRACT:

Background: There are currently a large number of elderly patients with hip fracture who require surgical treatment; However, it can be delayed by the intake of antiaggregants, which justifies the present study to avoid delaying the definitive treatment and thus reduce the associated morbidity and mortality. Objective: To establish the behavior of platelet mapping in patients with chronic intake of antiaggregants that have required surgical treatment for hip fracture. Methods: 51 patients were included in the HOSGEAES from 2015 to 2016. They were divided into three groups: A. Acetylsalicylic acid (n = 22), B. Clopidogrel (n = 22) and C. Dual therapy (n = 7). The universal variables were recorded, coagulation tests result of platelet mapping and percentage of inhibition. The analysis of variance was applied to compare three or more means, Chi square or Fisher's exact test. The data were processed with the SPSS 17 package, p <0.05 was taken as statistical significance. Results The abnormal platelet mapping rate was 62.7% vs 37.3% normal. The most unfavorable antiaggregant was dual therapy, 54.5% in those taking acetylsalicylic acid (p = 0.02). The presence of Arterial Hypertension was significantly associated with normal platelet mapping (p = 0.01); In the stratified analysis, it was observed that 100% of the patients in group C had SAH and abnormal platelet mapping compared to 55% in group B and 44.4% in those in group A (p = 0.03). Conclusions 19 patients (37.3%) resulted with normal platelet mapping, 10 patients belong to group A (19.7%), 9 patients (17.7%) to group B; therefore, they can be operated on for the hip fracture without further delaying the procedure. The combination of acetylsalicylic acid with clopidogrel (group C) should be carefully evaluated since it alters platelet mapping in 100% of cases. The presence of Arterial Hypertension is an important covariate associated to both the mapping alteration and the combined use of both drugs.

    ABSTRACT:

There has been heighted demand for relevant skills training and information on how labour markets operate, especially in the context of addressing unemployment challenges in Africa, and Kenya in particular. This has faced various policy implementation difficulties at the local level by governments. The study addressed the expected outcomes which were to: determine the planning strategies employed during training in vocational skills, training requirements for competency based skills acquisition among trainees at vocational training centres and assess ways trainees are exposed to new scientific and technological skills during workplace attachment. The review of literature showed that education reforms can be effective if countries have capacities to make them operational, with trained staff, effective organizational processes, functioning institutions and the existence of tools and resources to plan, implement and manage effective and custom-made education policies and plans. The improvement of existing vocational skills training in the context of sustainable development goal 4;To Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all is the way to go. The study adopted descriptive study design. 6 Vocational training centres in Meru and Embu Counties with 90 second years drawn from trades of carpentry, masonry and tailoring using random stratified sampling technique were picked. The 18 instructors instructing these trades, 12 members of board of management and local vocational education officers purposively participated in the study. Questionnaires, interview schedules and document analysis were used to collect data. Data analysis was done using percentages, ANOVA and descriptions. This formed the basis of, discussions and recommendations. The findings showed that 70% of the instructors interviewed said institutions were struggling to implement their strategic plans due to financial constraints. Majority of trainees rated the strategic plans feasibility above 50%. Availability of improved and modern training materials (78%) is a fundamental requirement during rollout of training in a trade. 70 % of instructors and 73% of masonry trainees were aware about concept of competency based skills training. Based on ANOVA computations at p=0.000<0.05about the mean rating of each of the three sub‐groups (x=2.07 for lecturers, x =2.02 for students, and x=1.93 for workplace supervisors) regarding the statement 50% weighting of students’ reports is appropriate’ was below the theoretical mean indicating disagreement on the part of respondents. Respondents perceived as inappropriate the 50% weighting of the workplace experiences reports submitted by trainee. The means of the three groups were slightly above the theoretical mean (x=2.5) about the statement ‘assessment of trainees by instructors during workplace attachment is not necessary’. Thus, all the three categories of respondents rejected the statement. The study concluded that vocational training centres were struggling to implement their strategic plans mostly due to financial constraints. The study recommends that the governments of third world countries should enforce competency based training among vocational training centres as matter of good training policy.

    ABSTRACT:

Food fermentation has a long tradition of improving the safety, shelf life and acceptability of foods. However, some notable outbreaks of food borne illness associated with fermented foods have occurred. The efficiency of one of the most common Sudanese fermentation methods of millet flour, using Dura (Sorghum) starter, in a preparation of hygienic millet starters for the production of indigenous foods was investigated. Two millet starters, Wad Ashana (pH 3.96 at 35.2°C) and Sudan II (pH 4 at 35.2 °C) were traditionally prepared. Millet flour was mixed with water extract of dura starter (pH=3.32 at 36.3 °C) in a 1:2 (wt/vol) ratio and left at room temperature (35 to 38°C) for about 24 h. Then, the starters were dried using a laboratory air oven adjusted at 47°C for overnight. The total bacterial count and yeast of Wad Ashana were 4.5×107 cfu/g and 5.5×104 cfu/g respectively and those of Sudan II were 8.6×107 and 6.6×105 cfu/g respectively. The microorganisms involved were Lactobacillus plantarum, Streptococcus lactis, Streptococcus cremoris, and Pediococcus pentosaceus. Saccharomyces cerevisiae was also found to contribute in millet fermentation process. With the only exception of Streptococcus cremoris, the starters showed the same microbial content after 17 months storage period at 6-8°C.

    ABSTRACT:

Contemporary discourse about curriculum includes recognition that curricula can be analyzed at many levels and from many positions. ‘By curriculum I mean what students have an opportunity to learn in school, through both the hidden and overt curriculum and what they do not have an opportunity to learn because certain matters were not included in the curriculum’. Nevertheless, the value of the term ‘hidden curriculum’ is that it draws attention to interpretations that have received little recognition in explicit curriculum discourse and which may serve as alternatives to the ‘preferred meanings’. Differences in outcome are expected but are viewed as the inevitable result of variations in ability and motivation. The belief is that the system is fair as long as equal opportunity is guaranteed. However, critics have suggested that beneath the ‘façade of meritocracy’ lies a system which reproduces and legitimates existing economic inequalities (Bowles and Gintis, 1976, p. 103). Others, while sharing a concern about the political dimensions of education, have cautioned against a deterministic view of education which ignores the contradictions and contestation which occur within the school (Apple, 1982). A more complete understanding of how ideologies work in schools requires examination of day-to-day school life (Apple and Weis, 1983). The central themes of this paper will not be dictated by the alleged boundaries between ‘foundational’ disciplines in education, nor by an unexamined division of the tasks of education and educational research between ‘practitioners’ and ‘theorists’, or between ‘practitioners’ and ‘policy-makers’. On the contrary, one of the tasks is to demonstrate, through careful research and scholarship across a range of fields of practical, political and theoretical endeavor, just how outmoded, unproductive, and ultimately destructive these divisions are both for education and for educational research. These are enduring themes in this paper touching upon some of the central questions confronting our contemporary culture and, some would say, upon the central pathologies of contemporary society.

Background: The usage of tablet or media tablet computers have become a viable consumer alternative to traditional notebook (laptop) and desktop computing modes. The light weight of the tablet makes it with the users everywhere and so the users spend many hours using it. Objective: This study was conducted to investigate the effect tablet use on muscle performance of wrist and elbow and the effect of period of tablet usage. Methods: The current study was conducted on 60 subjects. They were assigned randomly into three equal studies groups A, B and C with their mean ages were (23±2.63), (22.8±3.01) and (23.4±2.47) years respectively. Peak torque of right elbow flexors and right wrist extensors were measured for groups using Biodex system 3 isokinetic dynamometer. Results: The study revealed that the median score of the peak torque of right elbow flexors at 120 degrees/sec of "group A", "group B", and "Group C" showed there were significant differences (p=0.0001). Mann-Whitney U test (post hoc tests) revealedthat there was no significant difference of the mean values of the "post" test between (group A versus B) with (p=0.383). While, there was significant difference among (group A versus C), and (group B versus C) with (p=0.001) and (p=0.0001) respectively and this significant increase in favor of group (B) and group (A) than group (C). The study also revealed that the median score of the peak torque of right elbow flexors at 120 degrees/sec of "group A", "group B", and "Group C" showed there were significant differences (p=0. 003). Mann-Whitney U test (post hoc tests) revealedthat there was no significant difference of the mean values of the "post" test between (group A versus B) with (p=0.155). While, there was significant difference among (group A versus C), and (group B versus C) with (p=0.001) and (p=0.037) respectively and this significant increase in favor of group (B) and group (A) than group (C). Conclusion: Our study revealed that the peak torque of wrist extensors and elbow flexors of subjects using tablet more than four hours were less than those using tablet two hours and those not using tablet and this show the effect of misuse of tablet on muscle performance in normal subjects.

    ABSTRACT:

Gender equality and empowerment plays an important role in economic development. In India, despite the fact that female literacy and education enrollment rates have been rising, today it has lower levels of women’s workforce participation than many countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East. This paper is made an attempt to explore the major objectives like, to review the global trend of women work participation in general, to study the women work participation status in India and Karnataka and suggest steps to increase women work participation rate. This paper is based on the information gathered through available secondary sources and literature reviews. It is found that the percentage of women in South Asia was much lower than the global average of 51.1 per cent, and it was much lower than the percentage of women in East Asia, which was 66.4 per cent. As per Census 2011 workers constituted 39.79 percent of total population whereas the ratio of female workers was 25.51 per cent. In Karnataka as per Census of India 2011, only 23.39 percent of women workers are participated in main work force against 52.80 percent of male work force. Based on this I have come up with some suggestions to improve the women participation rate in India. Government has to launch policies that include sectors which are friendly to women increasing women’s participation in labour markets and policies will be needed to encourage women to overcome social and cultural constraints.
