    ABSTRACT:

Humans have always transformed the genomes of both plants and animals, which is basic knowledge. Originally, this intrusive processwhich has persisted for millions of years despite numerous errors and setbacks, was accomplished by crossing species that possessed advantageous traits. The purpose of this endeavor was to generate and nurture novel plants that would give advantages to humankind, such as improved food quality, increased productivity, immunity to diseases, and so on. However, the process of developing genetically modified organisms is achallenging task.

    ABSTRACT:

Background: During the process of unknown person’s identification from mutilated remains, gender determination is one of the prefatory procedures. After gender determination, age estimation helps to reduce the range of potential matches for unknown person’s identification. Skeletal and dental components are chiefly used in such cases as these two structures survive longest after death of individual. Mandibular bone being more resistant to degradation & destruction, also being durable and retain shape better than other facial bones can be useful in identification. In such situations, orthopantomograph (OPG) has proven to be a valuable tool. Hence present study used mandibular morphological variables on OPG to determine gender and age in a population of Gujarat and also assess accuracy of the same. Material and methodology: In this retrospective study, data collection consisted of precalibrated OPGs of 200 dentate males & 200 dentate females, after framing inclusion and exclusion criterias. Eleven variables were measured bilaterally on mandible by using mouse driven method using image J software and statistics performed on SPSS software. Results and Conclusion: Mean values of all variables show gender discriminating features bilaterally, although all not being statistically significant. Discriminant function analysis gave centroid value of -.845 and + .845 on right side and -.832 and +.532 on left side with accuracies of 79.3% and 81.3% respectively. Similarly regression analysis for age estimation in males gave R2 values of .328 and .306 and in females gave R2 values of .431 and .454 for right and left side respectively. This leads to inference that OPG can be used for age and gender estimation in population of Gujarat.

    ABSTRACT:

Peanut, a crucial legume crop in tropical and semiarid regions, serves as a significant source of edible oil and vegetable protein. This study, conducted at the Savannah Agricultural Research Institute (SARI) during the 2021 cropping season, aimed to assess the impact of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium on groundnut yield and its components. Employing a 3 x 3 x 2 factorial experiment design, the trial was arranged in a randomized complete block with three replications. Various parameters including plant height at harvest, plant population at harvest, pod yield (kg/plant), number of mature pods/plants, number of immature pods/plants, pod yield (kg/ha), and haulm weight (kg/ha) were collected and analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Significance levels were determined by Least Significance Difference (LSD) at a 5% probability level. Results indicated significant effects (p < 0.05) of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium on the number of mature pods per plant. Specifically, the application of 30 kg/ha of nitrogen and 20 kg/ha each of phosphorus and potassium resulted in the highest number of mature pods per plant (9.2). Furthermore, the combination of 60 kg/ha of nitrogen and 20 kg/ha of potassium without phosphorus application exhibited the highest haulm weight (265.11 kg/ha). Additionally, prevalent weed species within the experimental field included Digitariasanguinalis, Cyperus esculentus, Cynodondactylon, and Commelinalatifolia. These findings underscore the importance of balanced nutrient management for optimizing groundnut yield in tropical agricultural settings.

Introduction: To combat malnutrition and its related consequences during the early stages of life, appropriate complementary feeding is essential. Moreover, developing complementary foods that address the gaps between the daily energy and nutrient requirements of infants and young children and the amount obtained from breastfeeding should be designed. Materials and Methods: The objective of this study was to develop nutrient-dense ready-to-cook cereal mixes for 12-23 months children.A market survey wasconducted to gain information regarding locally available foods. Five nutrient-dense ready-to-cook cereal mixes were prepared using different food groups like cereals, millets, pulses, fruits, vegetables, nuts and oilseeds. Recipes were evaluated for nutrient composition, adequacy, dietary diversity as well as shelf life. Forty semi-trained panelists using ten-point composite rating scale and a seven-point hedonic scale conducted organoleptic evaluation. Results: Nutrient composition analysis revealed that RTCs met more than 80% requirement for iron, fiber and calcium and almost 100% for energy, protein, fat and carbohydrates for breastfed children however, for non-breastfed children except fat and calcium all other nutrient requirements were adequately met.The overall acceptability of RTCs ranged from 5.7 to 6.83.Shelf life studies showed that there was no rancidity during 3 months of storage. A manual and videos on complementary feeding, as well as instructions on how to use RTC mixes, were developed. Conclusion: Thus, the nutrient-denseready-to-cook cereal mixes developed can be useful to bridge the gaps between energy and nutrient requirements.

    ABSTRACT:

Pulmonary vein thrombosis (PVT) is an uncommon disease with a very similar clinical presentation as pulmonary artery embolism. We present a case of a 53 year old female patient who presented with chest pain and shortness of breath and was later found to have pulmonary vein thrombosis. The diagnoses was established with a CT scan of chest which showed a filling defect in a right segmental pulmonary vein. Patient was started on heparin drip and later discharged on oral apixiban. Three month later, CT scan showed resolution of thrombus. PVT presents with non-specific symptoms which can be easily mistaken for pulmonary artery embolism. While investigating a patient for cryptogenic stroke, diagnoses of PVT should always be considered. Diagnoses is made via CT pulmonary angiogram or magnetic resonance angiography. Echocardiography also aids in confirming a diagnosis. Treatment is similar to pulmonary arterial embolism with systemic anticoagulants.

    ABSTRACT:

Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in India plays an indispensable role in the economic development of the nation through contribution to the manufacturing output, increasing foreign exchange earnings, provision of employment opportunities, exports, andpromoting balanced economic development. The focus of this study is important problems of marketing of MSME units in the study area. The study also identifies the prominent marketing channels deployed by these businesses in the Indian scenario. The major issues with the transition to the internet marketing channels were thereafter investigated to generate an understanding about the digital challenges pertinent to the Indian MSMEs. In a competitive market, an individual producer or seller has to supply such goods as are not inferior to the goods of other competing firms. Therefore, the problem is to maintain and improve quality of production. Small business finds it difficult to come upto global standards of the quality. They also don’t have funds for research in order to improve upon the quality. The product quality is their weakest point as compared to the standards of the large scale units.Simple random method was adopted from probability sampling method to select the sample. Both primary and secondary data was collected for the study. Secondary data was poised from specific reports, jounals and other internet sources. The MSME sector has grown tremendously in the last few years in India, and it has enormous potential for growth in the future years.

    ABSTRACT:

ODL programmes continue to experience low student retention and high dropout rates, that range between 10% to 20%. It has been established that between 40% to 80% of students enrolled in ODL programmes are likely to withdraw before they complete their courses. In Kenya, it was established that students taking Bachelor of Education-related programmes in Open distance education mode account for 15% of the overall student dropouts. Despite this gloomy situation, few studies have been conducted to establish the influence of technical support services on the retention of learners taking ODL programmes. The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of learner technical support services on the retention of students in Open Distance Learning (ODL) programmes at the selected Universities in Kenya. The study hypothesis was that learner technical support services do not significantly influence the retention of students in ODL programmes. The study followed the pragmatic paradigm and used a mixed methods approach to collect qualitative and quantitative data. The target population of the study was 1990 students enrolled in ODL programmes. From these, a sample of 322Open Distance Learning (ODL) students pursuing Bachelor of Education-related degree programmes was selected using the Krejcie and Morgan (1970) formula. To ensure that the sample was representative, stratified random sampling with proportional sample size allocation was deployed. The study used regression analysis to test the research hypothesis at 5% significance level. The study used the theoretical frameworks of the Non-Traditional Undergraduate Student Attrition Model by Kember (1995). The study established that learner technical support services had a significant effect on the retention of learners in ODL programmes. The study recommended capacity building of lecturers to enhance this support.

    ABSTRACT:

It has been extensively shown that the COVID-19 pandemic and its related practices of confinement or lock-down may be influencing the persistence of social, economic, and gender disparities. Migrants, especially the millions of labor migrants in Indian cities, have been placed in a particularly vulnerable situation as a consequence of the type of actions that governments enacted in response to the health crisis. This paper discusses a comparative and historical perspective on the circumstances of migrant workers, arguing that the disadvantages they experience are deeply embedded in economic and social structures and have simply come to attention as the consequence of the pandemic. In addition to providing immediate social protection, policies must address the structural issues that keep migrant workers vulnerable.
