    ABSTRACT:

Quality of life is defined as individuals' perceptions of their position in life in the context of the culture and value systems in which they live and their goals, expectations, standards, and concerns". W.H.O,1996 This definition reflects the view that quality of life refers to a subjective evaluation that is embedded in a cultural, social, and environmental context. Because this definition of quality of life focuses upon respondents' "perceived" quality of life, it is not expected to provide a means of measuring any. This study aims to determine and compare the quality of life among married and unmarried individuals in Panjab University, Chandigarh. For this Purposive sampling technique was used across the married and unmarried individuals of Panjab University after obtaining permission from the respective Department. The sample includes 388 randomly selected individuals for this purpose. A standardized WHO questionnaire (WHOQOL-BREF) for quality of life is used for data collection. After the Data Collection, the obtained results were compiled using the Microsoft excel and the data is presented in form of various graphs and tables.

    ABSTRACT:

Alcoholism is a widespread behavioral disorder with excessive consumption of alcohol, resulting in alcohol dependence with aversive symptoms upon alcohol withdrawal. Depending on various modulating factors such as genetic predisposition, provocative environmental experiences, social context, pharmacological history and others alcohol consumption can become compulsive, and finally an addictive behavior might evolve. Withdrawal from chronic ethanol exposure has been associated with heightened anxiety and severe physical symptoms, such as tremors, nausea, sweating, increased heart rate, and increased risk of convulsions. Ethanol withdrawal has been postulated to be associated with specific molecular mechanisms and neuroadaptive changes that may lead to an increased and persistent anxiety state. The present study set out to investigate the effects of 6-Shogaol in ethanol-dependent mice using Fluoxetine as a control. Measures made in this model were consistent with literature data in that a daily ethanol consumption ranging from 24 to 30 g/kg yielding ethanol blood level close to 2 g/L (43 mM) produced the emergence of symptoms such as hyperexcitability and heightened anxiety due to ethanol treatment cessation in mice. This report shows that ethanol-withdrawal on chronic administration decreases the no. of entries of mice in the light area, and acute as well as chronic treatment with 6-Shogaol dose dependently reverses their response.

    ABSTRACT:

Background: Fluoride-releasing restorative materials act as fluoride reservoirs delivering fluoride to nearby tooth structures and absorbing fluoride from surrounding or external sources. This trait is desirable in caries prevention and eradication. Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare the fluoride release and recharge capability of a novel glass hybrid material (Equia Forte Fil) with and without a resin coat (Equia Forte Coat). Materials and Methods: The sample consisted of 68 freshly exfoliated or extracted (for orthodontic purposes) sound primary molars. Standardized buccal class V cavities were prepared in all teeth and then restored with Equia Forte Fil according to manufacturer’s instructions. The samples were randomly allocated into two groups (n=34). Group I [Experimental] (n=34): teeth restored with Equia Forte Fil in addition toEquia Forte Coat. Group II [Control](n=34): teeth restored with Equia Forte Fil only. The samples were immersed in 5ml artificial saliva and fluoride release was evaluated on the 1st, 3rd, 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th days using fluorine ion-specific electrode. After 28 days, each group was further divided into 2 subgroups (n=17). Subgroup A [Experimental (n=17): Treated with Enamel Pro Varnish. Subgroup B[Control](n=17): received no fluoride treatment. The amount of fluoride re-release was measured at the same time intervals. Data was analyzed using Independent t test, Repeated measures ANOVA with post hoc Bonferroni test. R Significance level was set at P≤0.05. Results: There was a statistically significant difference (P≤0.0001) in fluoride release and recharge between the 2 groups, where Group IIdrastically released more fluoride. Time had a significant effect on fluoride release within subgroups IA and IIA on specific days, as the amount of fluoride progressively decreased throughout the study. As for subgroups IB and IIB data was constant. Conclusions: The application of the nano-filled resin coat had a dramatic effect in reducing fluoriderelease and recharge capabilities of Equia Forte Fil.

    ABSTRACT:

Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem in children caused by a lack of nutritional intake for a long time, resulting in growth disorders. The purpose of this study was to analyze the risk factors of maternal education on stunting in two year old baby. The type of research used is quantitative with an observational analytic approach with Case Control research design. The population is mothers who have two year old baby and the sample is 46 people consisting of 23 cases and 23 controls and the sampling technique is purposive sampling. Data from the questionnaire will be processed using the SPSS program. Univariate analysis to determine the frequency distribution, bivariate analysis using chi-square test. The education of mothers who are at high risk and stunting are 13 two year old baby(59.1%) and those who are at high risk and normal are 15 two year old baby(62.5%), while the education of mothers who are at low risk and stunting are 9 two year old baby(40.9 %) and 9 children with low and normal risk (37.5%). The results of the Bivariate analysis show that the p-value is 1,000, which means that there is no relationship between maternal education and the incidence of stunting in two year old baby OR = 0.867, which means that low maternal education is a protective factor against stunting in two year old baby. The formal educational background of pregnant women is not a risk factor for stunting, but it is necessary to educate the level of knowledge related to pregnancy problems and two year old baby child care.
